Description

Oto et al developed a simple score for evaluating the lungs from a donor. The authors are from Alfred Hospital and Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Parameters:

(1) age of the donor in years

(2) pack years of smoking

(3) chest X-ray

(4) secretions

(5) ratio of PaO2 to FIO2

lung donor score =

= SUM(points for all 5 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 15

• The lower the score the better the lungs.
