Description

The Living Condition Rating Scale (LCRS) is a measure of deterioration in living conditions for a person or family.


 

Subscales:

(1) interior environment: 13 items

(2) personal hygiene and self-neglect (4 items)

(3) exterior of the household (2 items)

(4) utilities (1 item)

 

Interior environment (interior scale):

(1) accessibility

(2) odor

(3) lighting

(4) floors and/or carpets

(5) walls

(6) furniture

(7) kitchen

(8) food

(9) bathroom and toilet

(10) disposal of excreta

(11) hoarding

(12) clutter

(13) vermin

 

Personal hygiene and self-neglect (personal scale):

(1) skin

(2) hair

(3) fingernails and toenails

(4) clothing

 

Exterior of the household:

(1) exterior of house or dwelling

(2) garden and/or yard

 

Utilities (water, electricity, heating, phone service, etc.)

where:

• Severely abnormal indicates generalized decay of the environment including garbage, food debris, excreta, insect infestation and/or rodent habitation.

 

LCRS =

= SUM(points for all 20 items)

 

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 60 points

• If a person is not responsible for the exterior of the dwelling, then the maximum score is 54.

• The higher the score, the greater the squalor.
