Lawton and Brody developed a scale for grading an older adult's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL). The authors are from the Philadelphia Geriatric Center.

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 8

• The higher the score the greater the independence for activities of daily living.
