Description

The International Cooperative Ataxia Rating Scale (ICARS) can be used to evaluate the severity of a patient's ataxia. It was developed by the Ataxia Neuropharmacology Committee of the World Federation of Neurology.


Parameters:

(1) walking capacity

(2) standing capacity with eyes open

(3) gait speed

(4) spread of feet without support, eyes open

(5) body sway with feet together, eyes open

(6) body sway with feet together, eyes closed

(7) quality of sitting position (thighs together, arms folded)

• maximum total score: 100

• The higher the score the worse the ataxia.
