Faigle et al developed a simple score for evaluating patient who have undergone thrombolytic therapy for a stroke. The score can help to identify a patient who may require intensive care afterwards. The authors are from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Patient selection: stroke patient status post thrombolysis
Parameters:
(1) gender
(2) race
(3) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg
(4) NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) score

= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 8
• The higher the score the greater the need for ICU care.
• A score >= 2 indicates that the patient will probably need ICU care.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.78.
• The sensitivity was 97% and specificity 28%.
