Description

A patient with Klinefelter's syndrome may have reduced fertility and sexual dysfunction.

Factors contributing to subfertility:

(1) fibrosis and hyalinization of the seminiferous tubules

(2) decreased and abnormal sperm production

Factors contributing to hypogonadism and impaired sexual function:

(1) decreased serum testosterone

(2) elevated serum gonadotropins (FSH, LH)

Manifestations of hypogonadism:

(1) small testes

(2) sparse hair

(3) gynecomastia

Impaired sexual function may include:

(1) decreased libido

(2) erectile dysfunction

(3) impaired ejaculation

Modern fertility methods can retrieve sufficient sperm for in vitro fertilization but there is an increased risk for chromosomal defects.
