Description

Infections of the female reproductive tract other than endometritits and vaginal cuff infection may involve the vagina, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes or deep pelvic tissue. The diagnosis of infection can be made by meeting one of the following criteria.


 

Criteria 1: organism isolated from culture of tissue or fluid from the affected site

 

Criteria 2 - one of the following:

(1) abscess or other evidence of infection seen during surgery

(2) abscess or other evidence of infection seen during histopathologic examination

 

Criteria 3 - both of the following:

(1) 2 of the following symptoms:

(1a) fever (> 38°C)

(1b) nausea

(1c) vomiting

(1d) pain

(1e) tenderness

(1f) dysuria

(2) one of the following:

(2a) organism isolated from blood culture

(2b) physician's diagnosis of infection
