Description

Lahey et al evaluated patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and identified patients who should be tested for thrombophilia. The authors are from Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in California, the University of California San Francisco and Abant Izzet Baysal University in Turkey.


 

Patient selection: central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO)

 

Indications for performing a workup for hypercoagulation:

(1) age less than 56 years of age

(2) absence of atherosclerotic risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, diabetes, smoking, hyperlipidemia, etc)

(3) bilateral CRVO

(4) absence of ophthalmologic explanation (intraocular pressure, abnormal vessels, etc)

(5) personal past history of thrombosis

(6) family history of thrombosis
