Description

A penile prosthesis may be used for males with impotence after other measures have failed and after informed consent.


 

Indications for Penile Prosthesis:

(1) intention to use: A prosthesis should not be inserted unless it is going to be used.

(2) appropriate condition(s), see below

(3) other modalities failed or excluded

 

Conditions Where a Penile Prosthesis May Be Warranted

 

Organic impotence:

(1) damage after priapism

(2) Peyronie's disease with impotence

(3) penile fibrosis following injections

(4) problems with intracavernosal drugs and external devices

(4a) The patient is unwilling to consider their use.

(4b) The patient has failed to respond to them.

(4c) The patient is unable to continue with their use.

 

Psychological impotence:

(1) consider after all other measures have failed
