Description

Following completion of cavernosometry contrast material can be injected into the corpora cavernosa (cavernosography). Cavernosography is an invasive procedure that should only be performed when there are clear indications for its use.

The goal of cavernosography is to identify abnormal venous drainage from the penis that may explain veno-occlusive dysfunction in a male with erectile dysfunction.

Cavernosography is reasonable if all of the following are present:

(1) Cavernosometry is abnormal AND arterial studies are normal.

(2) Doppler ultrasonography has not yielded a diagnosis.

(3) Surgery will be performed if an appropriate lesion is identified.

The ideal candidate for venous surgery is a relatively young patient with a post-traumatic vascular defect.
