Description

Flibanserin (Addyi) may be carefully helpful in selected women with decreased sexual desire. It is only prescribed by certified physicians.


 

Indication for use: premenopausal woman with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

 

It is not indicated for:

(1) postmenopausal women

(2) other disorders of depressed libido in women

(3) enhancement of sexual performance

 

Contraindications:

(1) use with alcohol

(2) hepatic dysfunction

(3) significant inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) – ketoconazole, grapefruit juice, etc

(4) poor CYP2C19 metabolizer

 

An agent that induces CYP3A4 causes reduced flibanserin effect.

 

Adverse effects may include:

(1) severe hypotension

(2) syncope

(3) central nervous system (CNS) depression

(4) digoxin toxicity if taking digoxin

(5) nausea

(6) fatigue
