Purpose: To determine if a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) may benefit from placement of an ICD based on the analysis of Maron et al.

Are you evaluating a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?

Number of first degree relatives with premature HCM-related death

Number of other relatives who had a premature HCM-related death at < 50 years of age

Maximum left ventricular wall thickness

Number of runs of nonsustained ventricular tachycardia at a heart rate >= 120 beats per minute

Number of previous episodes of unexplained syncope not of neurogenic origin
