Description

A disorder of homeostasis may be associated with headaches. Some disorders (hypothyroidism, dialysis, hypoxia, etc) are common enough to have separate designations.


 

Patient selection: headache

 

Criteria for headaches associated with a disorder of homeostasis:

(1) The patient has a disorder of homeostasis that has been associated with headaches.

(2) The headache has 2 or more of the following:

(2a) The headache shows a temporal relationship with the homeostatic disorder.

(2b) The headache has features typical for a headache associated with that type of homeostatic disorder.

(2c) (The headache gets worse if the disorder becomes worse.) OR (The headaches improves or disappears if the disorder improves.)

(3) There is no other cause that can explain the headache better.
