Synonym: gelled flame fuel
Napalm consists of:
(1) gasoline or oil
(2) a thickening agent that converts the liquid fuel to a gel
(3) other additives to impart specific properties
Hazards to people exposed to napalm:
(1) severe burns
(2) carbon monoxide
(3) explosions from munitions if a combatant
(4) burns related to phosphorus or other additives
(5) post-traumatic stress disorder
Burning napalm is very sticky and very difficult to remove from exposed clothing or flesh.
Hazards to people handling napalm:
(1) exposure to solvents such as benzene (in Napalm-B)
(2) transdermal and inhalational exposure to the fuel
(3) ignition if smoking near a production site
