Description

The making, moving and storing of hay bales can be dangerous. Charlwood and Byard listed a number of hazards that can make hay bailing hazardous. The authors are from the University of Adelaide in Australia.


 

Hazards when using a hay baler:

(1) mangling injuries to the upper extremity

(2) being pulled into the machine

(3) crush injury

(4) fire following machine overheating

(5) injury while performing mechanical repairs

 

Hazards associated with moving hay bales (shuttling):

(1) physical exertion

(2) tractor accident

(3) crush injury

 

Hazards associated with stacking hay bales:

(1) fall from height

(2) crush injury
