Description

At one time lawn darts was a popular yard game. Unfortunately they were associated with a number of serious injuries. An old game in storage should be discarded.

A lawn dart was a large, heavy dart with a long point that was designed to stick into the ground. The dart could have significant kinetic energy, especially when thrown high into the air.

A falling dart was quite capable of penetring any body part that it came in contact with.

Darts can penetrate:

(1) cranium (able to cause fracture or to penetrate the calvarium)

(2) eye

(3) face and neck

(4) hands or feet

(5) an extremity

(6) torso

Complications of a dart injury:

(1) blunt trauma, including brain damage

(2) cellulitis or abscess caused by environmental bacteria

(3) tetanus

(4) bleeding

(5) blindness

(6) pneumothorax

(7) death
