Risk factors for development of HAVS in a chain saw operator:
(1) prolonged use of a chain saw (short term and long term)
(2) high level of vibration in the saw
(3) smoking
(4) family history of nonoccupational Raynaud's phenomenon
(5) history of previous traumatic injury to the arms
(6) other source of vibration exposure
The hand directing the saw tends to be more severely affected (Laroche, 1976).
Clinical features:
(1) Raynaud's phenomenon
(2) sensory and motor disturbance in the affected hand
(3) disability at work and leisure
