Ververidis et al evaluated the appearance of the penis following surgical correction of hypospadias in boys. This can be used as one element in determining the outcome of the procedure. The authors are from Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in Manchester, England.
The meatus may be:
(1) vertically oriented
(2) stenotic
(3) irregular
(4) circular
Parameters used to gauge the cosmetic appearance after the repair:
(1) meatus
(2) glans
(3) shaft
(4) overall appearance

total score =
= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 4
• maximum score: 16
• The higher the score the better the appearance.
Limitations:
• The evaluation could be improved for adults by some form of functional assessment for urination, erections, intercourse, etc. Since surgery was performed in a pediatric population sexual function might need to be done later.
• In theory the responses to the first 3 items should correlate with the overall appearance (fourth item).
