Pauca et al developed a grading scheme for quantifying shivering in a patient after surgery. This can be used to assess the patient initially and to monitor the effect of interventions.
Shivering is involuntary muscular activity that may be localized or generalized.
Parameters:
(1) degree of shivering in the head, jaws and neck
(2) degree of shivering in the thorax, shoulders and upper extremities
(3) degree of shivering in the rest of the body
