Hair may become white for a number of reasons. Poliosis may affect the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes and other sites.
Causes of generalized poliosis:
(1) albinism
(2) regrowth of hair in alopecia areata
(3) advanced age
(4) drugs (corticosteroids, cyclosporine, chloroquines, other)
(5) leprosy
(6) radiation therapy
(7) severe dermatitis
(8) severe stress
(9) vitiligo
(10) Rubinstein-Tabyi syndrome
(11) Vogt-Koyanaga-Harada syndrome
(12) Waardenburg syndrome
(13) Werner syndrome
