Reading and Freeman derived a simple formula for calculating the body surface area of an adult. The authors are from the University of New South Wales in Australia.
body surface area in square meters =
= SQRT((body weight in kilograms) * (body height in meters)) / 6
= 0.16667 * SQRT((body weight in kilograms) * (body height in meters))
NOTE: The formula is similar to that of Mosteller (above). However, this formula is much simpler to remember, and the authors have done a fine job showing how it is derived using anthropometry.
