Description

Myerson et al used a questionnaire to evaluate patients who had undergone trauma with crush injuries to the foot. This can help identify functional outcome. The authors are from Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.

Parameters:

(1) pain and impact on lifestyle

(2) gait

(3) stability

(4) limp

(5) shoes

(6) terrain

(7) stairs

total score =

= SUM(points for all 7 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 2

• maximum score: 100

• The higher the score, the better the outcome.

Score

Outcome

Clinical Correlates

75 - 100

good

minimal functional limitation

50 - 74

fair

pain and functional impairment in activities of daily living

< 50

poor

significant complaints of pain and functional impairment; may require long term therapy and be incapacitated

where:

• I would think a score near 100 would be an excellent outcome.
