Certain imaging findings in a patient with a hemorrhagic, non-traumatic stroke may indicate a poor prognosis.
Risk factors for a poor prognosis:
(1) ventricular extension of the hemorrhage
(2) large volume supratentorial hemorrhage (>= 50 mL)
(3) large volume infratentorial hemorrhage (>= 20 mL)
(4) >= 30% of the surface of the cerebrum involved with hemorrhage
(5) midline shift >= 1.5 cm
(6) obstructive hydrocephalus AND unable to provide a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (either due to contraindication or patient refusal)
