Description

Measurement of abdominal diameter can be done more accurately than abdominal circumference. Biparietal diameter correlates with head volume, which is an important determinant of fetal weight.

Limitations: Biparietal diameter can be affected by variation in cranial shape.

Eik-Nes (1982)

estimated fetal weight in grams =

= 10 ^ ( - 2.84421 + (1.85628 * (log10 (biparietal diameter in mm))) + (1.34008 * (log10 ((abdominal diameter in mm))))

Rose (1987)

estimated fetal weight in grams =

= e ^ (4.2581 + (0.193 * ((abdominal diameter in cm) + (biparietal diameter in cm))))
