Description

The Narcissistic Personality is associated with a number of traits. While these traits can be seen in most people, in some individuals they can be severe enough to constitute a personality disorder. In extreme cases the behavior can be pathologic.


 

Features of a narcissist:

(1) an inflated sense of self-importance, including grandiosity

(2) a need for admiration and attention

(3) a lack of empathy or caring for others

(4) arrogant and haughty

(5) demands special treatment

(6) may be manipulative or exploitative in relationships

(7) perceived threats to self-esteeem can elicit a negative response, ranging from defensive to enraged

(8) envious or assumes others are envious
