Description

Fear of cooking (termed mageirocophobia) occurs with some frequency but to various degrees.


 

Derivation is from the Greek word mageirikos (cooking-related, culinary)

 

Key features of fear of cooking - one or more of the following:

(1) The person may be unable to cook anything.

(2) The person may be unable to see or hear someone else cooking.

(3) The person may be unable to cook in certain situations (in front of others, for a large group, for in-laws, etc)

 

Other features:

(4) The person is able to eat cooked food.

(5) The fear is not better explained by another phobia (fear of germs, etc), diagnosis (such as a disorder of smell), or a specific smell that the person considers unpleasant.

(6) To be significant there should be some degree of disability associated with it.
