Description

Some physicians work even when they become quite old. Certain issues can comprise the care that an older physician provides.

An older physician may have problems as a result of:

(1) reduced vision

(2) reduced hearing

(3) an inability to respond quickly (poor reflexes)

(4) reduced stamina

(5) comorbid conditions

(6) effects of medications

(7) use of outmoded therapy

(8) limited skill in modern techniques

(9) cognitive impairment

A physician working in a group, clinic or hospital may be asked to undergo periodic assessment for fitness to practice. A solo practioner can continue with few outside restraints.
