Description

Quarantine measures may or may not be effective in control of a contagious disease. Many attempts at quarantine have failed in the past because of an inability or unwillingness to enforce the restrictions.

General requirements - the person:

(1) must stay in the place assigned for quarantine.

(2) must wear a mask and other suitable personal protective equipment when outside

(3) must prevent release of body secretions (cover face and nose when sneezing, etc.)

(4) not allowed to use public transportation, visit crowded places or have close contact with nonquarantined persons

(5) document any outside contact

(6) self monitor symptoms (take temperature, record signs and symptoms)

Factors that cause quarantine to work (positive factors):

(1) strict enforcement with penalties

(2) effective monitoring

(3) ability to communicate with family and friends

Factors that cause quarantine to fail (negative factors):

(1) failure to adapt to emergencies

(2) failure to provide social support

(3) failure to provide physical support (food, clothing, environment, etc.)

(4) failure to provide economic support (chances of significant loss)

(5) persons in quarantine being unable to believe in the necessity to adhere with restrictions

(6) excessively long time period

For the implementation I used a 4 point Likert scale grade 0 to 3 with 0 negative and 3 optimum.
