Description

The risk of mediastinitis following isolated coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery can be estimated using preoperative factors. This can help identify a patient who may benefit from more care during and closer monitoring after surgery. The score was developed by the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Association of Thoracic Surgery and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Parameters:

(1) age

(2) body mass index (BMI)

(3) diabetes

(4) COPD

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 16.5

• The higher the score the greater the risk of post-operative mediastinitis.
