Description

Hellmich et al developed the Erectile Dysfunction Risk Score to evaluate men with ED. The authors are from the University of Cologne and Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation.

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient in years

(2) history of pelvic surgery

(3) history of diabetes mellitus

(4) arterial circulatory disorder

(5) history of heart disease

(6) current smoker

(7) history of hypertension

X =

= (0.085 * (age in years)) + (1.776 * (points for pelvic surgery)) + (1.331 * (points for diabetes)) + (0.688* (points for arterial circulatory disorder)) + (0.637* (points for heart disease)) + (0.435 * (points for smoking)) + (0.334 * (points for hypertension)) - 6.84

probability of having ED =

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))

A point assignment version of the score is given in Figure 3.

Performance:

• The area under the curve for the original study was 0.84 and for national data was 0.75.

• For a 50% cutoff the sensitivity was 35% and specificity 96%. Other performance data is given in Table 3, page 500.
