A man with obstructive sleep apnea may develop erectile dysfunction (ED). Correction of the sleep apnea can result in a significant improvement in erection quality.
Features that may suggest the presence of obstructive sleep apnea:
(1) obese older male
(2) poor response to PDE5 inhibitors
(3) reports of snoring and/or apneic episodes by partner
Findings in obstructive sleep apnea associated with erectile dysfunction:
(1) severe obstructive sleep apnea
(2) significant morning tiredness
Other factors that may contribute to the ED:
(1) depression and/or anxiety
(2) taking a medication associated with ED
(3) hypertension
(4) diabetes mellitus
(5) cigarette smoking
(6) alcohol misuse
