Description

Yu et al developed equations for predicting the standard liver volume for Koreans. These can help in the planning of a liver transplant. The authors are from Chonbuk National University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, National Institute of Scientific Investigation in Daejeon and the University of Miami in Florida.

Patient selection: Korean

Parameters:

(1) body weight in kilograms

(2) body height in centimeters

(3) body surface area (BSA) in square meters

(4) age in years

liver volume in mL =

= (982.1 * (BSA)) - 226.5

= (267.6 * (((BSA) - 1.652)^2)) + (1132.2 * (BSA)) - 492.3

= 21.585 * ((body weight)^0.732) * ((body height)^0.225)

Cutoff

liver volume in mL =

BSA < 1.2 sq m

(509.2 * (BSA)) + 186.3

BSA >= 1.2 sq m

(1142.1 * (BSA)) - 499.2

age < 18 years

(812.7 * (BSA)) + 24.6

age >= 18 years

(1145.4 * (BSA)) - 506.1

Performance - The equations with the best adjusted R^2:

(1) age < 18 years (0.73)

(2) BSA < 1.2 square meter (0.76)

(3) body weight and height (0.59)
