Description

Wennesland et al developed several equations for predicting the blood volume in adult males. The authors are from the University of California San Francisco and University of California at Berkeley.

NOTE: The authors are the same as in the next section.

Subjects were adult males mostly in their 20's and 30's.

blood volume in mL =

= (52.1 * (body height in cm)) - 4700

blood volume in mL =

= (41 * (body weight in kg)) + 1530

blood volume in mL =

= (28.5 * (height in cm)) + (31.6 * (weight in kg)) - 2820

blood volume in mL =

= (3140 * (BSA in square meter)) - 1410

The parameters for these equations are the summations for the parameters in the equations for plasma volume and red cell volume by the same authors, below.

Performance:

• The standard deviations were from 360 to 450 mL.

• The coefficients of variation range from 8.1 to 10.1%.
