Description

Toto et al developed equations for predicting the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) for patients in the African-American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension (AASK) study. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States.

Patient selection: African-Americans aged 18 to 70 years of age with a diastolic blood pressure >= 95 mm Hg

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) age in years

(3) serum creatinine in mg/dL

(4) body weight in kilograms

(5) body mass index (BMI)

estimated GFR for a male in mL per min per 1.73 square m BSA =

= (0.30 * (52 - (age in years)) + (105 / (serum creatinine)) + ((weight) - 86)

estimated GFR for a female in mL per min per 1.73 square m BSA =

= (0.29 * (52 - (age in years)) + (88 / (serum creatinine)) - (0.77 * ((BMI) - 30))
