Description

Sanli et al developed equations for estimating body height from the hand and foot length of young adult Turks. The authors are from Cukurova University in Adana, Turkey, and James Cook University in Townsville, Australia.

Subjects: male and female university students

Measurements:

(1) length of the hand, along a line perpendicular to the distal wrist crease to the tip of the middle finger, in mm

(2) length of the foot, from tip of great toe to posterior aspect of the heel parallel to the long axis of the foot, in mm

estimated height for a male in mm =

= 747.19 + (4.81 * (hand length)) =

= 822.66 + (3.53 * (foot length)) =

= 439.52 + (3.29 * (hand length)) + (2.38 * (foot length))

estimated height for a female in mm =

= 890.01 + (3.74 * (hand length)) =

= 932.09 + (2.84 * (foot length)) =

= 743.11 + (2.38 * (hand length)) + (1.73 * (foot length))

estimated height for combined genders in mm =

= 451.04 + (6.148 * (hand length)) =

= 565.81 + (4.46 * (foot length)) =

= 372.39 + (3.32 * (hand length)) + (2.58 * (foot length))

The model for combined genders using hand and foot lengths gave the best estimate with R = 0.928.
