Description

Patil and Mody estimated body height by cephalometric analysis. This can be helpful when other sources of information are lacking. The authors are from Indian Gandhi Government Medical College and Government Dental College and Hospital in Nagpur, India.

Subjects: 150 health Indian adults, from 25 to 54 years of age

Analysis: cephalometric measurements from lateral cephalogram

Parameters:

(1) gender of the patient

(2) maximal length of the skull in mm, measured along the G-Op line (Glabella to Opisthocranion)

The measurement in the cephalogram must be corrected for any magnification, which was 12.5% in the current study (actual value = 0.875 * length in the cephalogram).

height of male in meters =

= 9.323724 * (maximal length of the skull in mm) /1000

height of female in meters =

= (9.19782 * (maximal length of the skull in mm) / 1000

where:

• Glabella is the most anterior point in the midsagittal plane between the superciliary arches.

• Opisthocranion is the most prominent point of the occipital bone in the midline.
