Description

Kanchan et al developed equations for estimating height from foot dimensions. The authors are from Kasturba Medical Center (Karnataka) and Punjabi University (Patiala) in India.

NOTE: Additional formulae are available for foot length alone, foot breadth alone, and including age as a variable.

Population: adult Gujjars (the main caste in North India)

Parameters:

(1) left foot length in cm

(2) left foot breadth in cm

(3) right foot length in cm

(4) right foot breadth in cm

(5) gender

height of a male in cm =

= 96.002 + (3.088 * (right foot length)) - (0.982 * (right foot breadth))

height of a male in cm =

= 90.984 + (2.974 * (left foot length)) - (0.186 * (left foot breadth))

height of a female in cm =

= 71.225 + (0.887 * (right foot length)) + (7.395 * (right foot breadth))

height of a female in cm =

= 78.485 + (1.14 * (left foot length)) + (5.953 * (left foot breadth))

height in cm when gender is unknown =

= 86.114 + (2.137 * (right foot length)) + (2.501 * (right foot breadth))

height in cm when gender is unknown =

= 86.673 + (2.187 * (left foot length)) + (2.19 * (left foot breadth))

where:

• Foot length is the distance from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe.

• Foot breadth is the distance from the most prominent point on the medial side to the most prominent point on the lateral side of the foot.
