Fuller et al used the data of Brozek et al to calculated total body mineral content using the ash content of the body as determined using total body dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The authors are from the MRC Dunn Clinical Nutrition Centre and Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, England.

osseous mineral

non-osseous mineral

Parameter from DEXA:
(1) ash in kilograms
total body mineral mass in kg =
= (osseous mineral mass) + (nonosseous mineral mass)
= (ash in kg) * 1.2741
osseous mineral mass in kg =
= (ash in kg) * 1.0436
nonosseous mineral mass in kg =
= (ash in kg) * 0.23048
total body mineral volume in liters =
= (ash in kg) * (0.41946)
where:
• 0.41946 = 1.2741/3.0375
• The ratio of osseous to nonosseous bone is 0.8191 to 0.1809.
• 1.0436 = 0.8191 * 1.2741
