Description

Chittawatanarat et al developed equations for estimating the height of Thai adults based on anthropmetric measurements. The authors are from Chaing Mai University, Adulyadej Hospital and Surin Hospital in Thailand.

Patient selection: male

Position: person sitting straight in a chair for sitting and knee heights

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) arm demispan in cm (distance from tip of middle finger to center of spine with the arm stretched out perpendicular to the torso)

(3) sitting height in cm (vertical distance from top of head to seat of chair)

(4) knee height in cm (vertical distance from top of thigh to floor with foot flat)

predicted height if male < 60 years of age =

= (0.55 * (demispan)) + 118.75

= (0.90 * (sitting height)) + 88.60

= (1.58 * (knee height)) + 89.44

= (1.40 * (knee height)) + (0.30 * (sitting height)) + 72.75

= (1.35 * (knee height)) + (0.27 * (sitting height)) + (0.09 * (hemispan)) + 69.27

predicted height if male >= 60 years of age =

= (0.92 * (demispan)) + 83.8

= (0.99 * (sitting height)) + 79.93

= (1.73 * (knee height)) + 80.31

= (1.55 * (knee height)) + (0.29 * (sitting height)) + 64.9

= (1.33 * (knee height)) + (0.25 * (sitting height)) + (0.29 * (hemispan)) + 53.56
