Description

Cheek reported several equations for predicting extracellular volume (ECV) for pediatric patients.

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) body weight in kilograms

(3) height in centimeters

(4) chronological age in years

For normal males:

extracellular volume in liters =

= (0.227 * (body weight)) + 0.916

= (0.797 * (chronological age)) + 0.392

= (0.001 * ((height)^2)) – (0.119 * (height)) + 5.39

= (0.074 * (height)) – 2.9 if height <143.1 cm

= (0.337 * (height)) – 40.6 if height >= 143.1 cm

For normal females:

extracellular volume in liters =

= (0.211 * (body weight)) + 0.989

= (0.691 * (chronological age)) + 0.809

= (0.125 * (height)) – 9.151

= (0.115 * (weight)) + (0.058 * (height)) – 3.856
