Description

Kocak et al developed an equation for estimating the amount of tissue to remove from a macromastic breast. This can be helpful in perioperative planning. The authors are from the Ohio State University.

Parameters:

(1) horizontal length of the breast in cm (from the medial extent of the inframammary fold near the sternum, downard across the nipple, to the lateral aspect of the breast at the lateral inframammary fold)

(2) vertical length of the breast in cm (from the superiormost aspect of the breast, down across the nipple to the center of the inframammary fold)

estimated amount of breast tissue to remove in grams from the one breast =

= (0.9148 * (horizontal length) * (vertical length)) - 142.50

Performance:

• Pearson correlation 0.95
