Description

Henry et al developed equations for predicting the normal left ventricular internal dimension during diastole. The value measured by echocardiography can be compared to this value for comparison.

Parameters:

(1) body surface area in square meters

(2) age in years

(3) measured left ventricular dimension in centimeters during diastole

predicted left ventricular internal dimension in cm =

= ((45.3 * ((BSA)^0.3)) - (0.03 * (age)) - 7.2) / 10

where:

• The division by 10 is for converting from mm to cm.

measured internal dimension as percent of predicted =

= (measured dimension by echocardiography) / (predicted value)
