Description

Goran et al developed a model for predicting fat-free mass (FFM) in young Caucasian children. The authors are from the University of Vermont and the Cliical Diabetes ande Nutrition Section of the National Institutes of Health.

Patient selection: Caucasian children from 4 to 6 years of age

Parameters:

(1) height in centimeters

(2) weight in kilograms

(3) resistance in ohms (using a tetrapolar bioelectrical impedance analyzer RJL101A)

(4) age in years

(5) gender (0 if female, 1 if male)

resistance index = RI =

= ((height)^2) / (resistance)

fat free mass in kilograms =

= ((0.59 * (resistance index)) + (0.065 * (weight)) + 0.04) / (0.769 – (0.0025 * (age)) – (0.019 * (points for gender)))
