Description

Burton described the relationship between the G tolerance and vertical distance between the eye and heart in a relaxed person not wearing an inflated anti-G suit.

G tolerance =

= 98.4 * 13.6 / (eye-heart vertical distance in mm)

Rearranging the equation:

eye-heart vertical distance in mm =

= 98. 4 * 13.6 / (G force)

If the G force exceeds the person's G tolerance, then one or more of the following may be employed to compensate:

(1) the eye-heart vertical distance can be reduced by reclining the seat backwards

(2) inflating the anti-G suit

(3) practicing compensatory maneuvers
