Description

Azizova et al developed an equation correlating the onset of vomiting in hours after a radiation exposure with the acute dose. The authors are from Southern Urals Biophysics Institute, the University of Pittsburgh, Mayak Production Association, and the University of California Davis.

Early onset of severe vomiting after a radiation exposure indicates a more severe exposure.

Parameters:

(1) hours to onset of vomiting after the exposure

(2) acute radiation dose in Gy

LOG10(hours to vomiting onset) =

= 0.67 - (0.78 * LOG10(absorbed dose in Gy))

If this is rearranged:

LOG10(absorbed dose in Gy) =

= (0.67 - LOG10(time in hours to vomiting onset)) / 0.78 =

= 0.86 - (1.28 * LOG10(hours to vomiting onset))
