Description

A person who listens to loud music is at risk for having a change in hearing.


 

Risk factors for a negative impact on hearing from loud music:

(1) sound intensity of the music

(2) prolonged exposure (duration)

(3) lack of hearing protection

(4) comorbid conditions (noise at work, medications, otitis, etc)

 

Effects of listening to loud music:

(1) transient change in hearing (change in threshold, hearing loss)

(2) permanent deafness

(3) tinnitus

(4) hyperacusis (in the sense of being "hypersensitive" to noise)
