The anatomy of a stenotic mitral valve can be determined using echocardiography. Cormier et al graded these changes.


 

Patient selection: mitral stenosis

(1) calcification of the leaflet(s)

(2) subvalvular disease

Grade 3 morphology is unfavorable for mitral valve commissurotomy.
