Description

Several drugs have been reported to induce hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). A patient with a history of hidradenitis may benefit from alternative therapy.


 

Drugs capable of inducing HS:

(1) lithium

(2) sirolimus

(3) cyclosporine

(4) vemurafenib

(5) oral contraceptives

(6) infliximab

 

Features of drug-induced HS:

(1) The onset of HS occurs after the patient has been started on the drug.

(2) The HS improves after the drug is discontinued.

(3) No other explanation for the episode is identified.
