Description

A number of drugs are associated with a chemical psychosis that may be temporary or that can lasts for weeks.


 

Intoxication with:

(1) ethanol

(2) lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)

(3) amphetamines

(4) cocaine

(5) phencyclidine (PCP)

(6) sedative-hypnotic agents

(7) volatile aromatic hydrocarbons

(8) khat or methcathinone

 

Withdrawal in a drug-dependent person:

(1) ethanol

(2) sedative-hypnotic agents

 

Therapy with the following medications:

(1) anticholinergic agents

(1a) atropine and related drugs

(1b) diphenhydramine

(1c) amantadine

(1d) phenothiazines

(1e) meperedine

(1f) tricyclic antidepressants

(1g) glutethimide

(1h) quinidine

(1i) disopyramide

(1j) anti-Parkisonan agents

(2) high dose corticosteroids

(3) theophylline
