Description

Priapism may be caused by exposure to a number of drugs.


 

Drug-induced priapism is associated with the following features:

(1) The onset of priapism is temporally related to a drug exposure.

(2) Alternative explanations for the priapism are excluded.

(3) Priapism is absent when the patient is not exposed to the drug.

 

Drugs associated with priapism include:

(1) sildenafil citrate (Viagra)

(2) prednisone

(3) alcohol

(4) drugs of abuse (cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana)

(5) herbal remedies

(6) heparin

(7) antihypertensive drugs (prazosin)

(8) pregabalin

(9) antipsychotic drugs

(10) antidepressants
